About the scheme

Learning that contributes, contribution that teaches.

The internship is a guided experiential learning process. Interns serve as both learners and contributors, actively engaged in the Association's activities to foster their learning and professional growth.

Bridge theory & practice

A structured programme that connects academic understanding with real-world application in the field of life skills education.

Develop future leaders

Shaping the next generation of educators, researchers, and practitioners in life skills through active, hands-on engagement.

Real exposure to work

Hands-on involvement in seminars, conferences, webinars, training, research, and publications across the Association.

Categories of interns

Two tracks, one shared purpose.

Track 01

Academic Interns

Undergraduate and postgraduate students, fresh graduates, or early-career professionals in education, psychology, social sciences, and related fields.

Track 02

Research Interns

MPhil and PhD scholars, along with early-career researchers seeking to deepen their work in life skills education.

Eligibility criteria

Who the scheme is for.

Eligible to apply
  • Young learners or early-career individuals, preferably aged 18–30
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Fresh graduates or early-career professionals in relevant disciplines
  • Not engaged in full-time employment
Not considered
  • Applicants currently engaged in full-time employment
  • Those in part-time or full-time roles with organisations operating in domains similar to IALSE's
Duration & structure

How the engagement works.

Duration

Between 3 and 6 months, depending on the nature of the engagement.

Mode

A hybrid format combining online engagement with participation in IALSE activities and events.

Mentorship

Each intern is assigned a mentor from among the Association's EC members.

Nature of engagement

On-the-job learning with guided academic engagement — organising programmes, research, training, and documentation.

Attachment

Attached to a Centre for Life Skills Education at an institution, or to the IALSE office for administrative purposes.

Review

Periodic reviews with the assigned mentor, concluding in a final evaluation.

From application to orientation.

Application via public call

Applications are invited through a public call. Submit the following:

Applications are screened by a designated committee.

Selection

Final selection is approved by the President.

Offer & onboarding

Selected candidates receive formal communication detailing the role, duration, expectations, and reporting structure. The Coordinator conducts a structured orientation at the start.

Interns contribute to one or more of the following areas, building a portfolio of meaningful, reviewable work.

Expectations & evaluation

What's expected, and how it's assessed.

Code of conduct

  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to timelines
  • Respect the confidentiality of institutional work
  • Submit outputs for review before dissemination
  • Work under the guidance of assigned mentors

Monitoring & evaluation

  • Continuous monitoring through regular mentor interactions
  • Performance reviewed on quality, engagement, and responsibility
  • Final review based on submitted work and presentation

Output & deliverables

  • A documented output — report, review, or portfolio
  • A final report of their work submitted to the mentor
Certification & institutional support

Recognition that reflects your contribution.

The scheme focuses on learning, mentorship, and academic contribution rather than financial compensation. A nominal registration fee applies.

UG / PG Interns

Registration fee for undergraduate and postgraduate interns.

PhD Scholars / Professionals
1,000

Registration fee for PhD scholars and early-career professionals.

On completion, interns receive a certificate issued by the Association. Exceptional contributions may be recognised through special mention or extended opportunities.

Coordination

Managed by a designated Internship Scheme Coordinator under the guidance of the President.

Mentorship

Provided by EC members of the Association who are designated as Mentors.
