S. M. Joshi College, established in 1986, is run by the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara. Founded by one of the most prominent social reformer and visionaries of 20th Century, late Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil in the year 1919, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara works with a vision and mission to educate the children of downtrodden and deprived class from rural and remote areas. S. M. Joshi College runs 14 UG courses in Arts, Commerce, Science and BCA. The College also offers post graduate courses including M.A. in Marathi, English, and History, M.Com and M.Sc. Chemistry (Organic) as well as several short term courses. Besides, college has research centres in Chemistry and Marathi. It also runs YCMOU centre. The present student strength of the college is 4300. The college has Competitive Examination Guidance Centre which has an enrolment of over 650 students.
