Dr Shekhar Seshadri

Dr. Shekhar Seshadri is a distinguished child psychiatrist with over 40 years of dedicated experience in the field of child and adolescent mental health. As the former Senior Professor at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, NIMHANS, he has made significant contributions not only within clinical settings but also in community and institutional frameworks across India and the South Asian region. His core areas of expertise include childhood trauma, gender and sexuality, and life skills education. A staunch advocate for child rights, Dr. Seshadri’s work encompasses preventive, promotive, and curative mental health interventions, as well as impactful legal and policy advocacy. His commitment to systemic change is evident through his leadership in designing training and capacity-building programs for professionals in both clinical and non-clinical child care environments. He is currently serving as an Advisor to SAMVAD, a national initiative for child protection and psychosocial care, supported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, which he originally conceptualized and brought to life.
