Certificate Programme on Decision-Making in Everyday Life

The Indian Association of Life Skills Education (IALSE) conducted a Certificate Programme on Decision-Making in Everyday Life from 25th September to 4th October 2025 via Google Meet. This 15-hour online programme aimed to enhance participants’ ability to make thoughtful, ethical, and socially responsible decisions using a life-skills approach.

Objectives

  • Evaluate real-life situations using structured decision-making frameworks
  • Generate alternative solutions and make informed choices
  • Connect decision-making with other core life skills

Programme Highlights

  • Dr. Radhakrishnan Nair, President of IALSE, inaugurated the programme, emphasizing decision-making as a key 21st-century competency connected with problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Facilitators included experts like Mr. Sudhir Kapoor, Dr. K. Prabhudas, Mr. Viren Parmar, Dr. Sudha Sood, Ms. Neetha M.S., and Mr. Asokan Nemmara.

Session Themes

  1. Introduction to Life Skills & Decision-Making – Understanding frameworks and interconnections among core life skills.
  2. Decision-Making Frameworks – Tools like SWOT, SOAR, POWER, DECIDE, and 3Cs introduced.
  3. Problem-Solving and Ethical Dilemmas – Case studies and simulation-based learning.
  4. Critical & Creative Thinking – Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy to identify biases and apply reflective thinking.
  5. Social and Coping Skills – Empathy, communication, resilience, and stress management in decision contexts.
  6. Integration of Life Skills – Applying learning across professional and personal domains through reflection and presentations.

Outcomes

  • 14 participants from diverse professional backgrounds completed the course.
  • Participants gained deeper awareness of how cultural, social, and psychological factors influence choices.
  • Final reflections showcased enhanced ability to apply decision-making models in daily life and work.

Feedback

Participants praised the interactive format, relevance, and quality of facilitation, noting increased confidence in applying structured decision-making approaches.

Conclusion

The programme successfully blended theory, practice, and reflection, fostering a strong understanding of informed, ethical, and balanced decision-making. IALSE reaffirmed its commitment to advancing life skills education and invited participants to engage in future research and conferences.
